Best Ways to Increase Metabolism

By Beth Hoover

Every one of us has a different metabolism. This controls the rate at which we put on weight, burn energy, and recover from exercising. It is determined by various factors such as genetics, lifestyle, diet, and overall health. The best ways to increase metabolism can be used by anybody who feels that there is scope for an improvement in their physical condition.

If you have a slow metabolism then it will be easy for you to put on pounds, you will find that throughout your life you are constantly dieting and putting on weight. Generally as we age our metabolism slows down. The methods known to be successful in increasing metabolism are always good to be aware of.

To start with it is important to identify the reason for a slow metabolism. It can often be down to a diet low in calories but high in unhealthy foods which contain a lot of sugars and salts. If change does not become apparent after an alteration in diet then further steps are necessary.

Be sure that you keep to meals at regular times of the day. This includes breakfast. Your first meal needs to be wholesome and provide you with adequate energy for four or five hours. Avoid snacking as much as you can as it will not help to improve your overall metabolism.

Starchy foods such as potatoes can be a great source of carbohydrates. When this is also combined with high fibre foods it produces a better functioning metabolism that will provide prolonged energy.

Diet will only offer half a solution. Exercise is also essential to ensure a good metabolism. Any workout that gets the heart pumping will improve your condition; try walking around the block each day or cycling to work. Even over a short time you will start to see an increase in your stamina and metabolism.
